Stephen would like to change the venue for our first spring tournament to the Brentwood Soccer Club Adidas Women's Invitational tourney. This tournament is to be held over the weekend of May 11-13 in and around Brentwood, Tennessee. Brentwood is located just south of Nashville on Interstate I-65.

Presidents Cup - Urgent Action Required

We need to register the team by April 9 for the Presidents Cup. We "zeroed" out the team account at the end of the Fall season so we need to collect your players share of the tournament registration fee now in order to be able to pay the registration amount.

Please send a check in the amount of $45/player to David Swann at 822 Blue Sky Ridge Snellville, GA 30078. Please send your check this week so that we can complete the registration process next week.

The Presidents Cup will be played over the 2nd and 3rd weekends in May. This will be a good way for the girls to keep their soccer skills sharp as the high school season winds down and we start gearing up for tryouts and the Fall.

Stephen and Campbell would like for the 97 Black team to participate in the Georgia Soccer Association sponsored President's Cup. This is a round robin style tournament with initial games played over the weekend of May 12/13. Finalists will continue play on the following weekend.

I apologize for all of the last minute e-mails regarding volunteer assignments but I didn't get this information until today so I am getting it out to everyone as fast as I can. We have two additional assignments on Sunday at Brisco Park that I just receeived information on. These are as follows:

GSA is closed today. Stephen will be at fields tomorrow for a make-up practice starting at 6:30. Not sure of what practice fields will be available, but meet at usual practice spot and we will move to another location if required.

Inserted below is the schedule for this weekends games. Please have your player on the fields ready for warm-ups 45 minutes prior to gametime. Also, GSA has published a uniform policy stating that home team is to wear their "dark" uniform kit (Red) for home games and lighter colors when away team (White). This is the exact opposite of what we normally wear so please plan accordingly.

Practice for next week will be cancelled due to the thanks giving holidays. we will resume training on Monday november 5th.

The field for the tournament is Harmony Grove, just a couple of miles from GSA.

I will be having a special training session on Saturday featuring the Atlanta Falcons Mr. Des White, this session is to teach the girls proper warm up and training techniques which will prevent certain injuries that are avoidable. Also strengthening drills.

We are playing in this weekend's NASA Classic Tournament. Our first game is Saturday morning at 8:30 am. We are scheduled to play all of our games at Tramore Park. Please have your player dressed and at the fields 45 minutes prior to kick-off. We are the home team for the first game and away for the next two. Stephen has asked for a brief parent meeting after Tuesday's practice. Registration Information

GSA offers multiple programs and they are divided into two categories. Recreational soccer is open to all players from age 3 through 19. Registration cutoffs and age groups are based upon the player's age on August 1, 2011. There are no tryouts associated with recreational soccer and the costs are substantially lower due to volunteer coaches and no travel at the younger age groups.

For more information on Recreational registration, please visit our website at www.gsasoccer.com/register/

Select soccer (Academy, Athena, Classic, R3PL, National League & ECNL) is available for players who wish to compete at higher levels. There are tryouts every May/June for these teams and they form for a season year (August through July). Costs are higher because of professional coaching and more extensive travel. Select Team registration is coordinated through the coach and/or team manager. Kate Helm Beans is the Select Registrar and can be reached at kate.helmbeans@gsasoccer.com.

If you have any questions regarding recreational soccer, please email us at registrar@gsasoccer.com. GSA must receive a registration (paper or online) and all applicable fees before a child can play or practice.

Please note that GSA no longer requires families to donate time for concession stand duty or other volunteer activities. The only duties that teams will be responsible for during the season are those of providing a field marshal during all home games.

The camps will focus on the following:

Dribbling: Focus on ways to maintain possession of the ball as well as learn different moves used by professionals to create space and evade defenders.

Heading: Learn the different methods to head the ball, specific to different game situations, while stressing the skills needed to improve directional heading.

Passing & Control: Improve both long- and short-range passing accuracy, and learn to play away from pressure with your first touch--giving you more time to make decisions.

Shooting: Work on striking the ball cleanly and accurately, so that you put a higher percentage of shots in the back of the net.

Agility: Improve footwork while increasing your balance and speed, thereby giving you that extra step to pass your opponent.

Congratulations to the girls for all of the hardwork during this weeks tryouts. You are receiving this e-mail because your player has been invited to play on the GSA 97 Black - Athena C Division U15 team for the 2011 Fall season. Listed below are some important dates and reminders.

Uniform Orders - All new players (and any returning players wishing to order extra pieces) need to send me their preferred uniform sizes (shirt and shorts) by end of day tomorrow. We will coolect order details later but the GSA uniform order coordinator needs to know sizes so that they can make sure that Adidas reservwes the pieces for us so that we will have uniforms for preseason tournaments.

Signing Day - June 21: Details about a get together to follow. We will meet to enjoy some food and socialization and allow Stphen a chance to talk with everyone about the upcoming season. Please keep your calendar clear around supper time on the 21st.

We are playing in the UFA Xtreme Cup This Weekend at their Central Park location - 2300 Keith Bridge Road, Cumming, GA 30040. Our first game on Saturday morning is at 9:15. I looked on the tournament website and we are listed in the U14 Silver Division. Our games are at 11:45 am as the Home team against United FA 97 White and 4:45 pm as the Away team against Inter Atlanta FC 97 Blue. Both are on Field 4 at the Georgia Soccer Park.(where we were last weekend!)

Sunday's game is at 11:45 am. We are the Away team against CESA 96G classic on Field 3.

If (when)we make the finals, they are at 3:30pm on Field 2 !!

I would also like to take the opportunity to welcome our two new players for the Spring - Khalayha Bogle and Haiden Madden. Since they are new to GSA we need to find them a loaner uniform for this weekend. We had several players in the fall receive "loaner" uniforms from Eurosport until the "official" uniforms were delivered. I had meant to speak to the parents of the players that received those pieces and ask that they return them to the team to keep as loaner/emergency pieces for guests or other players. Please let me know by e-mail if you are willing to do so or have an extra uniform that you would be willing to let our new players use for the weekend (doug.jory@amec.com).

As Doug sent out, we are playing next weekend in the Cobb Classic. We are listed as the Home team for the 9:30 am game on Field 5 and the Away team for the 2:00 pm game also on Field 5.

We play Sunday as well. The first game is at 8:00 am and the second at 11:00 am--both games are on Field 2 and we are listed as the Home team.

As always, bring both jerseys just in case we need to change colors and be on the Field ready to warm up 45 minutes before the posted game time.

We are playing next weekend (weather permitting - keep your fingers crossed) in the Cobb Classic Tournament. Our first game is at 9:30 against Norcross. The second game is against KFC at 2:00. We are playing at the Ga Soccer Park which is just outside I-285 and a little past Hartsfield airport. Please find me at one of the next three practices as I need to get your signature on the parents release form.

Dirwctions from 285 are as follows:

From the intersection of Camp Creek Parkway and I-285, go outside the Perimeter (which is west) approximately .8 miles to the 3rd traffic signal, which is the Welcome All Road connector. Turn left, (which is south) and go 80 yards to Welcome All Road. Turn left onto Welcome All Road at the 3 way stop, and go approximately .3 miles to a 3 way stop. Go straight and the road name changes to Ben Hill Road. Do NOT take Welcome All Road, which goes right. Georgia Soccer Park is on your left, and the entrance is approximately .3 miles after the 3 way stop with Welcome All and Ben Hill.

Sorry but due to the weather we are cancelling today's practice. I have asked the Manager to look for an alternative sulotion for the coming weeks if possible.

They are predicting sunshine and 50s for Wednesday but the fields may be closed due to moisture. I ask you all to be flexable because i may have to make decisions on a day by day basis, my goal is to have three practices per week but we will have to play it by the weather or if the manager is able to find someplace where we can play indoors and we comit to the week days and schedule saturdats as the outside day.

February Training Fees

Hello everyone!

With the start of soccer season comes the payment of our training fees. Each player will pay $85 per month for February, March, April and May. All payments should be made by the 5th of each month so we can get our payment to GSA promptly. This will be especially important for these first couple of payments since we are also paying entry fees for two upcoming tournaments. I will be at the end of practice on Tuesday and plan to be there on Thursday too. Players may also give their payments to Megan. You may also pay ahead if you would like. Thanks!

Stephen wants to start back with training beginning next week. If your player is not registered they are not eligible to participate in team training activities.

Thanks to all of you that have gone onto the GSA website and completed the registration process for Spring season. To those of you that have not yet done so, please be reminded that registration deadline is fast approaching (1/23/2011).

To access the registration please go to the GSA website and then click on the link in the upper left hand corner of screen entitled "My Account". Next select the Login option from menu bar and then enter your login Username/Password. From there you should see the registration details for your player and adjacent to your player's name is a command option entitled "Create Order". Once you have completed the information required to create the order the command button next to your player should change to read "Payment/Edit". Click on this button to enter payment details.

Sring Tournaments

We are looking at two (2) tournaments for start of Spring season. The first tournament is "in town" and is over the weekend of February 12 & 13 - Cobb Classic. The second tournament is an "out of town" tournament over the weekend of March 12 & 13 - Vulcan Cup - Birmingham, AL.

We need to submit our registration for these tournaments and I need to confirm that we will have enough players to go to each. Please respond to my work e-mail (doug.jory@amec.com) and let me know if your player has a conflict with either of these dates. Please respond NLT end of day tomorrow.

GSA has posted on the tournament site they are monitoring the weather and that it looks better than they had originally seen--and to dress warmly for wet and windy weather ! They will have an update at 10:30 pm so if there is anything to update--I will post it.

Practice tonight and Thursday at GSA. Please make sure that your player dresses appropriately for cold weather (lots of layers and head cover).

We play in the GSA tournament this weekend. Saturday's games are at TYSA Granite fields. We have an 8:00 am game against AFU. At 12:30 we play the Coastal Georgia Shockers. Please be at the fields 45 minutes prior to kickoff ready for warmups. I can't tell from the schedules printed on the website if we are the home or away team. I don't think that either AFU or the Shockers have a red uniform so lets plan on wearing all red on Saturday, but as always - bring your Whites just in case.

On Sunday we have a 8:00 game at GSA on Griffith field.

Volunteer Assignments for This Weekends Tournament

We have been give two (2) volunteer shifts for this weekends tournament. On Saturday we are to provide the Field Marshall/Venue Manager (only one field in use at Granite so not really a big deal). You will also be resposnible to collect game cards and call in scores to GSA. We are to provide coverage from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. Let's break this into three shifts - i) 7:00 to 9:30; ii) 9:30 to 12:00; iii) 12:00 to 2:00.

On Sunday we are back at GSA and have been assigned tee shirt sales from 10:30 to 1:30. Let's break this into two shifts - i) 10:30 to 12:00 and 12:00 to 1:30.

I will first look for volunteers for these shifts. I will fill them according to the order in which I receive responses. Please send me your prefered shift/assignment via e-mail doug.jory@amec.com. I will close out the "volunteer" period tomorrow at 6:00 pm. If we don't get the required number of vounteers I will fill remaining shifts by drawing names "at random".

Stephen wanted to ask that everyone plan to come to practice tomorrow (Thursday Nov 2) even if GSA closes the fields. In the event that the fields are not open Stephen wants to do some conditioning either on the GSA campus or across the street at the Parkview stadium track.

Please make sure that your player brings a pair of running shoes in addition to their cleats in case the practice is focused on conditioning.

Parents and Players,

I would like to thank you all for your support throughout the seasons, needless to say this would not be at all possible without your support and confidense.

I am so proud of the girls for the charecter shown even when we lost, i know i have also learned from them. I am especially thnkfull to Sarah Coles and her parents for her unwavering support of her team through her difficuly ordeal with the injury, i was very much inspired. I would also like to thank Doug, Mrs. Whiley and Mrs. Stimmel for their support and assistance, thanks to the parents who carpooled and made sure the girls were available, i guess i could go on and on but again thenks to all.

We will be training Tuesday and Thursdy then off for thanksgiving and back the next week in preperation for the tournament on December 11th and 12th, Doug please correct me if i am wrong about the dates.

From I-75 South: Take Exit # 63A You are now on 2nd St, King Rd, and E B Hamilton Drive exit ramp. At the top of the ramp turn right (west). Go west on King Rd, and E B Hamilton Drive (the name changes when you pass Colquitt EMC). Continue going west (straight through) at the traffic light (intersection of EB Hamilton Drive and Carpenter Road). Once through the intersection, the EBH Complex, Friendly City Park, FCP Pavilion, and Optimist Park Soccer Complex are straight in front of you. Turn left to enter the main park area and follow the signs. Alternate directions from Albany: Coming into Tifton on Hwy 82, take left at first traffic light onto Carpenter Road . Go to next traffic light and take a left onto King Road. Go to stop sign, soccer fields are in front of you, turn left, look for signs for soccer parking.

Some are going down earlier to eat and rest before the game. I told Coach that I would be there by 2:00 PM or so and plan to feed Shelby and Jordan on the trip down.

Coach wants everyone there a lot earlier than the usual 45 minutes. E-mail him with questions if you have them !

The game is at GSA at 7:00 pm. Have the players there at 6:15 pm in WHITE, but bring red just in case. This is the make-up game against RYSA. GSA lists Miller Field as the game site. That is the field we have played on--in front of the shed---next to the last field on the right.

Volunteer Assignments for GSA Invitational Tourny

Inserted below is a message from Kate Helm regarding volunteer duties for the upcoming GSA Invitational Tournament. We will be playing over the weekend of December 11 and 12. We will have to provide at least two (2) volunteers for the tournament.

As you know this event is being held the first 2 weekends in Dec. Because it is a GSA sponsored event, we will need volunteers from every team. As soon as the venues are finalized I'll send a volunteer schedule for each team. No one will be asked to work more than a couple hours, and we will work around schedules. If every family volunteers it will be very easy. All slots must be filled.

I do need volunteers for Friday Dec 3 (for the teams playing the 4^th and 5^th) and Friday Dec. 10 (for the teams playing that weekend) to work check-in. We need folks both during the day and in the evening. This is one of the few "in door" jobs – so if you have folks interested – please have them contact me (by email - Kate.Helm@nelsonmullins.com) right away.

It is likely to still be rather chilly Sat. morning so it makes sense for the players to have their long sleeve black shirt and their warm-up hoodie with them !!

Also, Mike wanted me to remind the parents that players need to have pants and a jacket to put on right after practice to keep their muscles warm since the nights are getting colder !!

We are playing Villa Rica at Fullerville Park on Field FV 7. Game is at 1:00 pm so have players there and ready at 12:15 pm. Here are the directions from the Georgia Soccer site:

From I-20 & Carrollton Villa Rica Hwy (Exit 24), go north along C'ton VR Hwy/Industrial Blvd 1.9 miles to 3-way stop (road ends), turn right. Go 0.6 mile to first street on left, Fullerville Park-Ball Park Drive, and turn left. Park is straight ahead. From I-20 & Liberty Road/Mirror Lake Blvd (Exit 26), go north to end at Dallas Hwy, turn left. Drive to Texaco & turn right on Old Towne Road. Follow to stop sign at Shell, turn right. 3 v 3 Turnament at GSA on Monday October 11

Gwinnett County Schools are out on Monday, October 11th and players are invited to joint us for the GSA 3v3 Challenge. The 3v3 Tournament will run from 9:00am until 3:00pm and is open to all players age 8 through 14, both Recreational and Select. Players can form their own teams or show up as an individual and we'll find you a team. Each team may have up to 5 players on their team.

Registration begins at 8:45am and the cost is $20 per player and players should bring their lunch. To pre-register or for more information, please contact Campbell Chapman.

Stephen has offered to come and support our girls during this tournament. The weather forecast looks perfect so come on out and enjoy a fun filled day of soccer.

This is what her Mom sent me this afternoon:

"Sarah is home. Surgery went well. She got 2 screws and had an extra external pin. She is in alot of pain, but happy to be home."

Coach would like us to visit her at home sometime to let her know we are thinking of her and miss her on the team. I will keep talking to her mother and see when we should do that. Maybe sometime next week afterschool? Sarah's Dad works for Dominos so there may be pizza involved !! Will keep you updated as I know more.....

The schedule has been updated on GA Soccer to reflect the change in games. As sent earlier, we now have a game this Sunday 9/26 at 4:30 pm against RYSA at Miller, which means we DO NOT have a game Oct. 9th against RYSA.

Coach is away from his computer and wanted to me to tell you this:

Congratulations! The team played hard and had a lot of success in the first games of the season. Having 5 games in 3 days was a lot--so there is no practice Tuesday night, but he recommends the girls do some stretching for 20-30 minutes both nights.

Thank you also to the parents who diligently cheered on the team and did not get a lot of "free time" on their 3-day Holiday weekend !

When the schedule gets more complete, it will be sent out. We do have a game at GSA Saturday---but do not know when or what field yet !

If you are traveling around 285 from Lilburn exit off of 285 like you are going to get on I-75 South. As soon as you exit 285 there will be a ramp for Ga Highway 85 to your right. Take the Ga Hwy 85 exit ramp and follow directions sent by Mary. When you get into Fayetteville be looking for Picadilly Cafeteria on your left. The Picadilly is at the intersection of Banks Road. Please allow at least an hour for travel from GSA to McCurry Park. We are playing on McCurry Park North 7 Weeman which are the fields located off of Ga Hwy 54.

Alanta Cup Volunteer Opportunity

Since the Atlanta Cup is not sponsered by any individual club but is a program run by the state soccer association, participating teams must participate in the volunteer duties that are typically distrubuted within a "host" club. You have an opportunity to "pick" your volunteer assignment and get it out of the way before the weekend. The Atlatna Cup is currently looking for volunteers to work the Friday night registration. Since the assignment is 4 hours long I am asking for two vounteers to "split" this into halves. Please respond by e-mail to doug.jory@amec.com and let me know which half you would like to take. As usual, first response gets to pick their assignment. If we receive no volunteers then I will draw names at random and you may not get what you want. See details inserted below:

We might have to repeat Saturday's idea of staying at the Park because the semi-finals are at 3:00 pm Sunday at Wade Walker.

Atlanta Cup Info

We have games at Wade Walker Park on Saturday at 11:00 am and 3:30 pm. At practice tonight, Coach Stephen said he would like us to spend the time between games as a team, if possible.

Since the time is so short between games, some of us were thinking of bringing lunch for our own individual families and just hanging out at the park. There are shelters throughout Wade Walker Park.

There is a McDonald's by the Park, and a Subway on Stone Mountain-Lithonia Road. (Turn rt. out of the park and rt. on St. Mtn-Lithonia Road. Address is 2038). There are other places, but farther away.

Apple and Orange slices will be available at helf-time of all games.

If anyone has a canopy to provide the girls shade during the games, please bring it!

Practice Uniform

The Practice Uniform survey has closed and the overwhelming majority of respondents voted for the Ultimate Package. The vote for practice shirt colors was a close one but in the end the Red/Grey combination carried the day. Attached to this e-mail is an order form for the practice shirts & warm-ups. As has been mentioned before, the purchase of practice uniform pieces beyond the two practice shirts is totally voluntary. However, based on the survey response the overwhelming majority of the players were in favor of the Ultimate package so we encourage everyone to move up to this option so that the girls can have matching warmups and long sleeve tees.

If we can get our order to the printer by next Monday there is a good chance that we can pick up the shirts and warm-ups prior to our 1st tournament. I will send a sample of the hoodie with Sarah to practice tonight if you are interested in having your daughter try one on to get a "feel" for size to be ordered. I will also be around towards the end of practice to pick up order forms and answer any questions that you may have about practice outfit.

Please register your preference for practice shirt/warm-up package option as well as practice shirt color preference on the survey that has been opened up on the team website. Please note that in order for printer to hold the prices on the upgraded packages we will need for the majority of the players to purchase these items. I would hope that "as a team" we can all order the same pieces so that we will look like a team every time we take the field. I have spoken with many of the parents during last Thursday's practice and the genreal consensus was running in favor of purchasing the Ultimate package.

Good Morning Everyone!

I wanted to remind you that training fees for August($85) are now due. If you have not paid, please do so TONIGHT. Fees are due to be paid to GSA and we don't want to be late. :)

Also, remember to turn in a signed copy of the disclosure form as well as a notorized copy of the GSA medical release form, if you have not yet done that.

Practice tonight will be at Wade Walker Park from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. If you are unable to attend, please let Stephen, Doug or me know if you haven't already. All players are expected to be ON THE FIELD, READY TO PRACTICE AT 6:30. So, you may want to arrive a few minutes early to park, get to the field and get on cleats etc. I heard Coach Stephen mention LATE & 5 LAPS the other night so be warned. :)

Practice Next Week

Next week we will have practice on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Wade Walker park (GSA fields are reserved for Boys Select Camp). We will have a brief parent meeting at the start of Tuesday's practice. Please plan to attend as Stephen would like to address the upcoming season, discuss Atlanta Cup Tournament, etc.

Cindy Wiley has offered to take pictures of players for player passes. If your player hasn't already gotten their picture taken please be at the GSA complex by 7:45 am tomorrow morning and Cindy will get one then. She will also be taking pictures at next Tuesday's practice if you aren't in town this week.

Also, if you haven't yet turned in your financial disclosure form or notorized medical release please bring them with you to next Tuesday's meeting. You may also turn in your check for August training fees as well

Training Fees for 2010-2011

Hello everyone!

I will be taking over the treasurer duties for the 97 Phoenix this year. Everyone should have received a copy of the disclosure Doug sent in a previous e-mail. If you have not, you may login to our website for past e-mails. Please update any information in the directory if needed, including updating e-mail addresses where you would like team information to be sent. You can list multiple addresses.

As Doug mentioned, everyone needs to turn in a signed disclosure form. This breaks down our expenses for the year and is a committment for both the fall and spring seasons. I will be collecting fees on the 1st of the month so that we can get funds deposited and paid to GSA in a timely manner. We have had some months where we were late as not everyone had paid on time. :( This does not make GSA happy and reflects poorly on our team so... PLEASE BE SURE FEES ARE PAID ON TIME!!!

I will be collecting AUGUST training fees THIS WEEK. The first falls on Sunday and I know some will not get paid until Friday so if you need to give me a check at Tuesday's practice, August 3, that is fine, but please NO LATER. Please make checks payable to GSA 97 Phoenix Black.

I will also plan on taking pictures of all the girls this week so we can get our player cards done.

In addition to collecting fees, you may also give me the signed disclosure forms and the notorized medical release forms and I will get them to Doug or Sarah.

Team Camp & Uniform Info

Team Camp is next week - 8:00 to 11:00 am. Please make sure that your player is well hydrated before and after practice. Training uniform for first day will be black shorts and a light colored GSA training tee shirt (or other white soccer tee shirt). Players should be at the GSA complex on time ready to start practice with shin guards, cleats, ball, etc.

We will be ordering training tee shirts for fall season. These will have the GSA logo and players number. Inserted below is the information that I have for the team as regards uniform numbers and jersey size. Please advise if anything is different from what is shown.

Uniform Order Submittals

Roberta Stevens has agreed to coordinate uniform orders for the upcoming season. We must submit one consolidated order for the team and Roberta has graciously agreed to do this. In order to meet the deadline set by Eurosport for order submittals Roberta asks that you have your individual orders and check for same to her by this Friday July 2, 2010. Roberta may be reached on her mobile at 770-329-5073. If you wish to mail or deliver your order and payment to her house the address is: 201 Streamside Court, Lilburn, GA 30047 (If you send your order in by mail please do so early enough to ensure delivery by this Friday).

It has also been brought to my attention that the order form sent with a prior e-mail does not provide a place for you to record your order for "white" uniform pieces. Please change the description in the order form for "black" uniform pieces to instead describe the color as "white". If you also wish to order a pair of the "black" shorts for practice please indicate so in the area of the order form that currently is designated for order of "green keeper" uniform pieces.

2010/2011 Season Uniform Orders

I received notice today that we must have our team uniform orders submitted by July 7, 2010. For players returning to GSA the good news is that we will be using the same uniforms as last year so you only need to place an order if your player has "outgrown" their current uniforms or you desire additional replacement/extra uniform pieces.

Attached to this e-mail is the excel format uniform order guide that outlines what is available as well as pricing. New players will at a minimum need to order red and white shirt/sock/short combination. The black practice shorts aren't mandatory but are a suggested purchase. I will send out a separate e-mail regarding practice tee shirts as we get closer to start of season.

Registration for 2010/2011 Season

Signing day is this coming Tuesday (6/22/2010). I will send out an e-mail on signing day with your players registration number so that you can go online and register your player.

Attached to this e-mail is a "draft" copy of the financial disclosure form for the 2010/2011 season. You will need to return a signed copy of the disclosure form with other paperwork required for registration process. I have listed the "tentative" tournament schedule in this document.

Returning and new players will need to also provide a "notarized" copy of the GSA medical waivier as well as a wallet size picture for the player pass. New players will also need to provide a legible copy of the players birth certificate.

Please join Stephen and I in welcoming the four new players to the team:

Please make sure and introduce yourselves to our new players and their parents during the teams summer activities. We will have a "post-signing day" get togther sometime during the week of June 28th to allow everyone to turn-in the required paperwork. (If one of the parents is a notary please let me know if you are willing to bring your stamp to this get together to notarize the release form) I will send out a follow-up e-mail with details related to this get together sometime next week.

Stephen is developing plans for weeknight fitness and skills training during July. In the meantime, please remind your player that they need to continue running, juggling, etc. as GSA Select Team summer camp will be here before you know it - July 26-30, 2010.

GSA Athena U14 Open Tryouts - June 8/9/10

GSA will be holding tryouts for the 2010/2011 Season for the rising U14 players June 8/9/10 on Spencer field from 6:30 to 8:00. The timeframe for open tryouts, recruiting and team formation are set by the state soccer association. It is important that all players from the current U13 Black team attend tryouts. If for some reason you cannot attend please let Stephen or Doug know. Please make sure that your players continue to train and work on conditioning as it will likely be very hot during the tryouts. On the days of the tryouts make sure that your player gets lots of rest and is well hydrated.

Volunteer Assignments for this Weekend

Thanks to the Brownes and Blys for stepping up and volunteering for Field Marshall duties. The rest of the slots I had to fill in random order. Assignments are as follows:

Saturday - Field Marshal (Griffith/Holman/Weiland):

Sunday - Field Marshall (Bender/Upper 10)

If you can't make your assigned time slot you are responsible for finding someone to take your place. If you have never been a field marshall at GSA don't worry becuase responsibilities are rather simple. 1) You need to walk around the fields and be alert for any issues that require the attention of the GSA officer of the day. 2) Help make sure that fields are kept free of trash (Make sure and remind players and parents to pick-up any trash in their areas when games are finished) 3) Be a good representative of the club. Please make sure and wear one of the orange vests that will be available in front of the clubhouse while performing the field marshal duties.

Saturday - Field Marshal (Griffith/Holman/Weiland): Need 4 volunteers for 1-1/2 hour shift starting at 1:30, 3:00, 4:30 & 6:00.

Sunday - Field Marshall (Bender/Upper 10) Need 2 volunteers for 1-1/2 hour shift starting at 1:30 & 3:00

The manager for the NASA team has advised that they won't be able to make it on the 9th so we are now looking at the evening of Friday May 7, 2010. I don't have a game time yet, but once we confirm folks general availability I should be able to secure a specific commitment and time slot for our game. Reminder - practice tonight at GSA from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Please make sure that your player is on the fields ready for practice at 6:30 sharp as we have two (2) games this weekend and will need everyone prepared to play hard.

Saturday we are playing against WGFC back out at their Boundary Waters facility where we started the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM so please have your player in uniform (all Red) at the fields ready for warmups by 2:15. Please make sure and allow for travel time as traffic can be very unpredictable in this area around this time of the year.

Sunday we have a 4:30 home game against the South Georgia team. Please be at the fields by 3:45 in uniform (all White) ready for warmups.

Finally, please mark your calendars to reflect that we will be making up last Saturday's game against NASA on Sunday May 9, 2010 at 3:00 PM. We conducted a survey earlier this season looking at this date as a possible make-up date for another game and were made aware that two players had potential conflicts with this date. Please let me know ASAP if you have a conflict with this date (e-mail me at doug.jory@amec.com).

Parents:

Attached is the latest statement of account for our team funds. As you will see, we currently have $215.26 in our account. Looking ahead, I will be collecting $780 for May training fees, and $384 for tournament fees. That would bring us to a total of $ 1,379.26. Minus the $900 we owe for May training fees, that leaves us with $479.26 at the end of the season. We may have a website fee to pay of around $85. Bottom line, we have about $400 to work with. Do we want to start thinking/talking about coach gifts, end of season team party, etc?

Treatment with "RICE":

If your child or student becomes injured while playing a sport, remember R. I. C. E.:

Rest - reduce or eliminate using the injured body part for 48 hours. With leg injuries, stay off them completely.
Ice - Place ice on the injured area for 20 minutes sessions. Repeat 4 - 8 times per day. Use bagged ice, a cold pack, or a zip lock bag with crushed ice wrapped in a towel.
Compression - Compress an injured ankle, knee or wrist. Ask your doctor to recommend whether you should use elastic wraps, air casts or splints, special boots or bandages.
Elevation - Use a pillow to elevate the injured area above the heart level.

What Does Research Say?

Caraffa, Cerulli and Projetti report that the three main noncontact injury mechanisms are planting and cutting, straight-knee stopping, and one-step landing with the knee hyperextended.

I received the below inserted e-mail this afternoon indicating that the GSA complex is closed. Since the forecast does not call for any additional precipitation until later in the week we are looking to see if it will be possible to make-up todays's practice on Tuesday or Wednesday. Please let me know of any conflicts that you have that would prevent your daughter from attending a make-up practice on those days at the usual time (6:30-8:00). In the meantime please remind your player that it is important that they stay in shape by doing conditioning and ball skills on their own time.

Next Week Practice

It's Friday night and it looks like the rain is about ready to stop. The next band of rain is not forecast to come into town until next Tuesday so we are keeping our fingers crossed and going to try and get in a practice session next Monday (2/8/2010) from 6:30 to 8:00 at the SMYSA Wade Walker facility. We will also try to get in a practice on Thursday (if the weather cooperates). We will wait till closer to Thursday to make a decision on practice location for Thursday. We would like to get back to the GSA fields, but given the recent rains it is likely to be some time until they are open. In the meantime we are looking at several local indoor facilities but everyone is booked for next week. We will continue to look at all of our options for practice space and try to give folks as much notice as is possible before making any changes but please check your e-mail and the team website before heading out to practice to make sure that nothing has changed.

Due to to recent rains, the GSA complex is closed and Stephen has decided to cancel today's practice session. Please remind your player that they should still spend some time this afternoon to work on conditioning (running, sprints, etc.) and ball skills.

We are still trying to finalize tournament details. Due to several players being out over the weekend of 2/21 and the timing involved with finding "guest" players, we missed the deadline for application to Concorde tournament. We continue to correspond with the tournament officials to determine if they have an opening at our age group/level of play. We are looking at alternative tournaments for the following weekend so please try and both dates open.

IMPORTANT - All U13 and U14 teams must have at least 7 players registered BEFORE January 15 so the team can be declared for the Spring season.

The WGFC Team Website shows the Chestnut Log complex as being open. Given the inclement weather forecast for overnight and early am please check your e-mail and the team website for updates before heading out. Right now it looks as if our game is on. Underarmor and other cold weather clothing are recommended but must be worn inside the uniform.

The state soccer association has extended the deadline for completion of regular season games. Accordingly, we have rescheduled the away game against WGFC for Saturday December 5, 2009. This is an extended weekend for Gwinnett county schools and I have heard that some families may have plans that will keep their daughter from attending the game. Parents, I have been able to get a practice field at the Stone Mountain Youth Soccer Association venue at Wade Walker Park in Stone Mountain, 5585 Rockbridge Rd. Stone Mountain, GA. 30086. I would like to have practice there tomorrow at 6:30 pm. as we all know by now our home fields are in bad shape at the monent and it may be a couple weeks before we can return to normal, I need a mandatory response from each parent letting me know if they can make it, I would also like to discuss future practices at this site.
